Top Five PC January 2018: Most Popular Videogames

1) Subnautica is a survival, adventure game set in an open world environment and played from a first-person perspective. The player controls the lone survivor of a crashed space ship, called the Aurora, on an aquatic planet. The main objective of the player is to explore the game's world and survive the dangers of the planet while at the same time following the story of the game. Subnauticaallows the player to collect resources, construct tools, bases, and submersibles, and interact with the planet's wildlife. In the basic difficulty "Survival", the player will have to maintain hunger, thirst, hydration, and oxygen. The game includes a day and night cycle which affects the gameplay and surroundings. The game will include three other modes: "Freedom mode", in which hunger and thirst are disabled; "Hardcore mode", which is the same as Survival, except that if the player dies, the player will no longer be able to respawn; and "Creative Mode", in which the hunger, thirst, health, and oxygen features are all disabled, all the crafting blueprints are acquired, where no resources are needed to craft and the submersibles do not need energy and cannot be damaged. The game is mainly set underwater, with two explorable islands. HTC Vive Support is not yet fully built into the game. As a result, using SteamVR will not work with the Vive Controllers.

2) Dragon Ball Fighter Z The gameplay borrows concepts from several other fighting games, primarily the Marvel vs. Capcom series' control scheme and team mechanics. Players each select three characters to form a team. One character is controlled, and can be switched with one of the other characters at any time. Players can also call one of their other characters to perform an "Assist" move, allowing simultaneous attacks and combos with the entire team. All three of the opponent's characters must be defeated to win the game.
The universal "Vanish" and "Dragon Rush" moves resemble the Roman Cancel system commonly found in Arc System Works gamesand Guilty Gear Xrd's Dust attacks respectively, while the "Super Dash" move resembles the Homing system of Arcana Heart. Players can also "Ki Charge" to manually increase their super meter, similar to previous Dragon Ball fighting games.
The game also includes other features, such as "Come on Shenron!", that allows players to gather the Dragon Balls one by one as the fight progresses by special moves and combos. Once all seven are assembled by a player, Shenron appears to grant a wish, and allows players to choose one among the following benefits: increasing their fighter's strength, revive a fallen ally, recover a fighter's health or increase resistance to damage. Another feature is the "Dramatic Finish" mode, in which if some characters win the fight against specific enemies, special cutscenes are triggered related to events from the Dragon Ball series.
Dragon Ball FighterZ features a ranking system in both its arcade mode as well as in online multiplayer, where players increase their rank with subsequent wins.

3) PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a player versus player (PvP) action game in which up to one hundred players fight in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last man sta , or with a small team of up to four people. In either case, the last person or team left alive wins the match. Each match starts with players parachuting from a plane onto a map area approximately 8 by 8 kilometres (5.0 mi × 5.0 mi) in size. The plane's flight path across the map varies with each round, requiring players to quickly determine the best time to eject and parachute to the ground. Players start with no gear beyond customized clothing selections which do not affect gameplay. Once they land, players can search buildings and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, clothing, and other equipment. These items are procedurally distributed throughout the map at the start of a match, with certain high-risk zones typically having better equipment. Killed players can be looted to acquire their gear as well. Players can opt to play either from the first-person or third-person perspective, each having their own advantages and disadvantages in combat and situational awareness; though server-specific settings can be used to force all players into one perspective to eliminate some advantages.

Every few minutes, the playable area of the map begins to shrink down towards a random location, with any player caught outside the safe area taking damage incrementally, and eventually being eliminated if the safe zone is not entered in time; in game, the players see the boundary as a shimmering blue wall that contracts over time. This results in a more confined map, in turn increasing the chances of encounters. During the course of the match, random regions of the map are highlighted in red and bombed, posing a threat to players that remain in that area. In both cases, players are warned a few minutes before these events, giving them time to relocate to safety. At random, a plane will fly over various parts of the playable map and drop a loot package, containing items which are typically unobtainable during normal gameplay. These packages emit highly visible red smoke, drawing interested players near it and creating further confrontations.  On average, a full round takes no more than 30 minutes. At the completion of each round, players gain in-game currency based on how long they survived, how many other players they had killed, and how much damage they dealt to other players. The currency is used to purchase crates which contain cosmetic items for character customization.

4) The Red Strings Club is a cyberpunk narrative experience about destiny and happiness. The video game is the work of Deconstructeam (Gods Will be Watching), and presents a plot where a large corporation is about to launch a system capable of eliminating fear and depression. Wonderful, right? However, the barman of a joint and a hacker consider it a real brainwashing and will fight to avoid it through pottery mechanics, impersonation of people and the work of one of them waiter.

5) Assassin's Creed Origins: The Hidden Ones is a downloadable content expansion package for Assassin's Creed: Origins, released on 23 January 2018. It is the first out of two expansion packs for the game, alongside The Curse of the Pharaohs.
Set six years after the events of the main game, The Hidden Ones sees Bayek travel to the Sinai Peninsula, where he will become entangled in a conflict between occupying Roman forces and a rebel faction. It also continues the story of the Hidden Ones, exploring the events that came after the formal founding of the Brotherhood.

Resident Evil 2: Remake Is Frightening In New Ways, But It's Still Familiar

The highly-anticipated Resident Evil 2 remake rides a thin line between old and new. It instantly pulls you in with familiar characters and locales, but finds new ways to make you feel uneasy with its new interpretation of classic events you remember from the original. Whether or not you played Resident Evil 2 back it released, the upcoming remake is shaping up to be a satisfying jaunt through a horror classic well worth looking out for. My time with the demo began in the main hall of the Raccoon City Police Department as Leon S. Kennedy--who's just as strong willed and naive as we remember. He's no longer the invincible superhero that latter entries transformed him into; he's desperate and vulnerable. These qualities should come as no surprise to fans of the original version, but the remake really leans into them, making your time spent as the rookie cop all the more tense and dire. And with higher-quality voice performances, Leon's circumstances feel grounded an...
