Fortnite: Ahead Of Season 9, Mysterious Runes Have Begun Appearing Around The Island

Fortnite appears to be beginning to tease its upcoming season, with strange happenings in the world. This time it's a series of runes near Loot Lake, and the community is already scrambling to unlock their mysteries. Fans on the Fortnite subreddit have been swapping information about the "Loot Lake Rune Event" in a dedicated thread. There appear to be two runes spotted so far--one in Fatal Fields and one in Paradise Palms. The runes are moving, however, and seem to be changing directions. That could signify that they're drawing a pattern, similar to past events with moving objects. Meanwhile, a strange vault has appeared at the bottom of Loot Lake, reports PC Gamer. That appears to correspond with the rune movements. Fortnite Season 8 began on February 28, and seasons usually last 10 weeks. That means we have about two more weeks until the start of the next season, so now is the right time for Epic to begin laying the groundwork for it. Fortnite has been know...

Fortnite: Where To Visit The Corrupted Areas (Location Guide Week 2 Challenges, Season 6)

Epic has kicked off Week 2 of Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 6. With an entirely new new Battle Pass, that means there's plenty of new cosmetics to unlock. One of the ways to do this is by completing the weekly challenges. To make that a quicker, easier task we've got a breakdown of everything you need to do, including a guide on visiting the Corrupted Areas. As with the previous season, challenges are split into two categories, with one set available to everyone and a second set exclusively for those that purchase a Battle Pass. Complete the mini-quests and you'll earn Battle Stars that level up your Battle Pass to unlock rewards. In the free section you'll need to use a Shadow Stone in three different matches; these items were a big addition for this season but were absent for most of the first week due to a bug. You'll also be asked to complete stage one of a multi-part challenge by dealing 200 points of damage with an Assault Rifle, and visit all of t...

Fortnite: New Skins Leaked Ahead Of Halloween Event

Fortnite is getting spooky through the newly launched Season 6 with its Darkness Rises theme, but it looks like it will be adding some special Halloween-themed cosmetics as well. A new set of skins, back bling, gliders, and pickaxes have been leaked, giving a look at what's presumably to come at some point during October. From the Twitter account  FNBRLeaks  come our first looks at the skins Hay Man (Male) and Straw Ops (Female); Hay Nest and Birdhovel back bling; Dark Glyph and Field Wraith gliders; and Thunder Crash and Harvester pickaxes. Plus, it provides a look at the new T-Pose, which goes especially well with the Hay Man skin. You can see them all in the tweets below. So far Epic hasn't announced any special Halloween events, so we're not sure yet just how you'll earn these new cosmetic items--they could be sold like any others or tied to specific challenges, like the birthday event items released this summer. Whatever the case, these join a whole host of...

Fortnite: PS4 Cross-Play Beta Is Now Live

After months of resisting cross-play, Sony has finally given Fortnite players on PS4 the ability to play with those on other consoles. The platform's cross-play open beta is now available, just in time for Season 6 (now live), enabling "gameplay, progression, and commerce" in Epic's massively popular battle royale game across PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. This move marks a dramatic reversal in Sony's stance on cross-play. The company has come under fire over the past few months for not allowing Fortnite players to play with and share their progress across platforms, despite that functionality being available in other versions of the game. Sony's response to the issue was that PS4 was simply the best place to play, suggesting that there was no need to allow cross-play with other platforms, but fans and other video game industry leaders were unsatisfied by the company's answer. Sony announced its change of heart in a post on...

Fortnite: Season 6 - A new season of Epic's battle royale game kicks off next week

Season 6 of Fortnite is almost upon us. After much speculation--and a rather bizarre turn of events related to the mysterious purple cube that has been rolling around the island--Epic has finally confirmed when the new season of its massively popular battle royale game will begin, and it's very soon. The developer announced on Twitter that Season 6 will begin this coming Thursday, September 27.  Update:  Following the release date, we have our next bit of info regarding the new season: a teaser image showing what appears to be a llama skin that might become available. You can check it out below.  It was  presumed  that the season would begin sometime this week, as the official Fortnite website stated that Season 5 officially wraps up on September 25, and Epic typically kicks off a new season shortly after the previous one ends. This, however, is the first time the developer has confirmed when Season 6 will start, althoug...

Fortnite: Season 5 Start Date Confirmed For Battle Royale

Epic Games has revealed when Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 5 will start. In a post on the game's Reddit page, the company confirmed Season 5 will begin on July 12 at 1 AM PDT / 4 AM EDT / 9 AM BST / 6 PM AET. To help people unlock remaining Battle Pass rewards for Season 4, Epic is awarding double XP for matches from June 29 until July 2. Ahead of the new season, Epic has released a new mode for Fortnite. Introduced as part of the latest update, the Playground LTM is essentially a private server for players to experiment on. It's designed for players to jump in and hone new strategies or sharpen building skills. Since access is invite only, you can do these things without being ruthlessly gunned down by enemy combatants. The latest Fortnite update also adds Dual Pistols, map markers, part four of the Blockbuster Event, the Builder Pro controller layout, and more. You can read the full Fortnite v4.5 patch notes here for a breakdo...

Fortnite: Battle Royale Update Adds Playground Mode

Epic Games is consistently adding new limited-time modes to Fortnite: Battle Royale, and that will continue very soon with the addition of the Playground LTM. This is a mode Epic mentioned a while back, but it has only just been confirmed by way of an in-game message. [ Update:  The new Fortnite update is now live with Playground mode, but for the time being it's been disabled due to matchmaking issues.] "Let your creativity run wild on your own private island," reads the message. According to a blog post from around a month ago, Playground "will load you into the Battle Royale Map with some adjusted settings." The post continues: "Battle and build to your heart's content with an extended period of time to roam around the map as well as increased resource generation. All treasure chests and ammo crates will be spawned, try droppin’ in different spots and scope out the loot. Friendly fire is on so you can scrimmage with your squad (up to 4 friend...

Fortnite: Matchmaking Down After Update Adds Playground Mode; Patch Notes Released

Update:  Playground has temporarily been taken offline while Epic investigates issues with its matchmaking services. We'll update when the company manages to reinstate the LTM, but there's no estimate provided for how long it may take. According to Fortnite's status page, matchmaking in its entirety is currently down, which means you'll likely to have to wait to try out the update's new features.  The  o riginal story follows. Epic Games' Fortnite: Battle Royale continues to change week-by-week, and now the game has changed again with the release of its latest patch. Update 4.5 adds the Playground LTM (limited-time mode), Dual Pistols, and more to PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. Epic says Playground is a "low-pressure environment where friends can let their creativity run wild." It acts as a private server of sorts, and allows you and up to three friends to mess around and practise strategies in the Battle Royale world with...
