Microsoft gave Gears 5 a solid chunk of its E3 2018 presentation, introducing the new lead character and laying the groundwork for the story threads that this installment will explore. Now that the game is known, the studio behind it is starting to tease some more fine details.
A tweet from the official Gears of War account shows off a fresh screenshot, featuring three of the gears, including a new one named Fahz Chutani (left). He's also holding a new version of the Lancer rifle, one of the series' most iconic weapons.
Gears 5 will star Kait Diaz in the leading role, taking center stage after her supporting role in Gears of War 4. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told us that the abbreviated title (to simply "Gears 5") is "cleaner" and uses shorthand that the community had already been adopting for years. He also joked that it will save you a few characters on Twitter.
This was part of a trio of Gears games introduced during the Microsoft E3 showcase. The other two were a surprising kid-friendly mobile game called Gears Pop, and a slightly less but still surprising PC strategy game called Gears Tactics. Gears 5 was actually the most expected of the trio, but also the one fans have been pining for the most, so it was saved as the showstopper.
