Fortnite: New Close Encounters Mode Is Now Live After Being Disabled

Fortnite's latest limited-time mode has been temporarily postponed. Shortly after the Close Encounters event began, Epic Games announced on Twitter that an issue had been discovered and the mode was being disabled across all platforms--PS4, Xbox One, PC, and iOS--while the developer investigated it.  Close Encounters was slated to be the second new limited-time mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale this week, following on the heels of Solid Gold v2, which began with the release of the 4.2 content update. In contrast to Solid Gold, Close Encounters mode focuses on "close quarters combat" and only features shotguns and the newly added jetpacks. Epic hasn't provided any further details on the unspecified issue it discovered in Close Encounters, only noting that the mode has been taken out of the rotation while it works to address the problem. Likewise, the developer didn't announce a time frame for when Close Encounters will return in the game. In the meantime, ...

State Of Decay 2: Earned Over 1 Million Players In Two Days

When you're taking on horde, after horde, after horde of zombies, sometimes numbers are your only way to survive. In just two days after its global launch on Xbox One and PC, State of Decay 2 racked up over one million players. It should be noted that the number of players doesn't necessarily account for the number of sales. State of Decay 2 is currently available on Xbox Games Pass, Xbox One's game streaming service. Members of the service can play the game in its entirety without having to have purchased it. That's not the only impressive number Undead Labs and Microsoft have shared either. From May 18 to 22, players have collectively played over 6 million hours and streamed 3.5 million hours on Mixer, Twitch, and YouTube with 41,000 broadcasts. Within the game, players have slaughtered over 675 million zombies, thrown 6 million firecrackers and fireworks, munched on 6 million bags of snacks, read 2 million textbooks, and on average have survived for...

Fortnite: Challenges Are About To Get Much More Manageable

For Season 4 Battle Pass owners, Tuesdays are an exciting day in Fortnite. A new set of weekly challenges is released, and although you have the full season to complete them, players are eager to get them done and earn new rewards. That process is about to become a more pleasant one, thanks to one of several new quality-of-life changes coming soon. Epic Games has outlined many of the new features and changes that are slated for update 4.3 and beyond. One thing that is coming in 4.3 is challenge progress notifications. As you accomplish your objectives, a message will pop up during matches to let you know where you stand toward finishing a given challenge. Currently, you can only check on how you're doing with challenges in between matches from the main menu. You can also take mental notes (or physical ones, if you really want to get wild), but that becomes difficult when a bunch of challenges pile up. Was I supposed to get Eliminations in Tomato Tow...

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Xbox One's New Map, Miramar, Out Now

The desert map is finally here. After weeks of testing, Miramar is finally set to launch for the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The new map will be added to the live game tomorrow, May 24, and it will arrive as part of PUBG's May update alongside some stability and optimization improvements. [ Update: The May update has arrived, and Miramar is now available on PUBG's live servers on Xbox One.] Miramar rolls out for all Xbox One players at 12 AM PT / 3 AM ET / 8 AM BST. It's the second map to be added to the console version of PUBG, following Erangel. In contrast to the lush greenery of the original map, Miramar is set in the desert and features arid locales likes mountains and villages to explore and fight in. Miramar released for the PC version of PUBG several months ago, but Xbox One owners got their first chance to try the map out in April, when developer PUBG Corp. held the first of several Miramar tests on the console. The deser...

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Mode Revealed

fter weeks of teases and speculation, Activision finally pulled back the curtain on this year's anticipated Call of Duty game, Black Ops 4. Like previous entries, Black Ops 4 will come with a variety of different game modes, including the ever-popular Zombies, but this year's installment will also feature its own take on the  battle royale  genre. Dubbed Blackout, the new battle royale-style mode pits players against each other in a fight to be the last one standing. On the official Call of Duty website, Activision revealed that Blackout will be playable solo or in teams, just as in Fortnite and PUBG. Where it differs from other battle royale games, however, is that it draws heavily on previous Black Ops titles. Developer Treyarch says it wanted to create a battle royale mode "the Black Ops way," and to that end, it has incorporated elements from the entire series into the mode. According to Treyarch, the map in Blackout is the biggest one ...

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Will Have A Zombies Mode

Outside of a few cryptic teases, Activision has yet to reveal many details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. While the publisher will formally unveil the title during a special event later this month, we've now learned one more tidbit about the game courtesy of the official E3 Twitter account. The account revealed that, like previous installments in the series, Black Ops 4 will have a Zombies mode. "What's lurking around the corner of Treyarch's next Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies experience? Come hear the history of Call of Duty Zombies from the creators themselves at E3Coliseum!" the tweet reads. Given the popularity of Zombies mode in previous Call of Duty games, and the fact that it has appeared in every Black Ops game to date, it isn't surprising to learn that it will once again return in Black Ops 4, but it's one of the few concrete details we know about the game so far. We also know it is once again being developed by Treyarch, and that it...

Will Destiny 2's Warmind DLC Be Enough To Bring Back Players?

In the months following its September launch, Destiny 2 developer Bungie has been in a tight spot trying to keep its community happy. Despite a solid start that showed stronger storytelling, quest variety, and sense of progression compared to the original, the sequel eventually fell into the same pitfall that its predecessor did: there's just not much to do in Destiny 2 if you're in it for the long-haul. During the developer's recent livestream showcasing many of the points of interest in the upcoming Warmind expansion, they were frank about their attempts to address the problems regarding challenges, content diversity, and the steep grind the Destiny 2 community has been unhappy with--me included. While I really enjoyed Destiny 2 in its early months--even clearing the game's story and reaching Raid status with three characters--my enthusiasm for the game quickly dropped after Curse of Osiris. As the May 8 release date for Warmind draws closer, it's worth co...
